Na'Vi and Secret go home
The main event of The International 6 kicked off on Monday in Settle’s KeyArena. Four teams were sent home and two winner’s bracket matches decided who would advance in their quest to win TI6.
In the first series of the day OG squared off with the South Korean powerhouse MVP Phoenix. It was one of the most intense matches of the tournament so far. MVP’s hyper aggression proved to be too much for OG to handle, and with an impressive performance on Phantom Assassin by QO the Koreans have secured their spot in the winner's bracket.
In the second match Digital Chaos played Wings Gaming. The NA team managed to put up a good fight for the first two games, dropping to a Drow Ranger draft in the first and punishing Wings’ gimmicky Pudge-Techies combo in the second. On match point, Wings displayed amazing performances across all five roles, stomping DC in a 25-minute win and knocking the American team down to the lower bracket.
After the upper bracket matches followed four single-elimination series of the lower bracket. First up was TNC Gaming vs. Vici Gaming Reborn, the SEA sensation and an experienced Chinese squad. Vici managed to set the pace by securing early kills, but eventually TNC’s Terrorblade rolled over Vici, making them the first team to be eliminated from TI6. TNC advanced to face OG.
Next, Team Secret faced a trial-by-fire in its best-of-one against LGD Gaming. Over the course of an hour LGD secured a decent lead and forced some crucial misplays from Secret. They eliminated Secret from TI6 and advanced to face Digital Chaos.
In the third lower bracket match Fnatic and Escape Gaming fought for survival. The European squad struggled to gain ground against an aggressive Fnatic lineup. The SEA roster led by Dota veteran Mushi secured a win in a short 26 minutes. They will play the loser of EHOME vs. Alliance matchup.
The final lower bracket match was the main event of the night. Two crowd favorites, Natus Vincere and Team Liquid, faced off, with only one team able to advance further in the tournament. Both teams chose to draft some of their favorite heroes, with Liquid securing a late-game lineup and Na'Vi going with full aggression, putting superstar Dendi on one of his best heroes, the Queen of Pain. An early lead looked promising for Na'Vi, but MATUMBAMAN played really strong on his Naga Siren, becoming unstoppable for the Na'Vi lineup. Na'Vi are out of the tournament and Liquid advance to face the loser of EG vs. Newbee.
